There are several different ways for you to receive alerts on incoming mail.
If you are running Yahoo Messenger http://messenger.yahoo.com you can get audio and pop-up alerts. ( more info at: http://help.yahoo.com/help/in/mesg/use/u... )
You can also get an alert to your mobile device at http://alerts.yahoo.com/main.php?view=cr...
If you are using Yahoo Toolbar http://toolbar.yahoo.com you can get an alert on the mail button of toolbar. ( more info at: http://help.yahoo.com/help/us/toolbar/to... )
You can also use a Yahoo Widget to check for new mail:
